A Quietly Haunting Home: Layered Elegance for Halloween

At Savannah’s Home & Design, we believe Halloween doesn’t have to be kitsch. It can be cinematic, layered, and elevated. This season, we wove together moody textures, sculptural details, and quiet luxury styling — turning the dark into something beautiful. This year we went for romantic European moodiness.

From candlelit vignettes to editorial moments in black, every corner tells a story of timeless elegance with a seasonal spooky edge.

Because even in the spookiest season, design should feel like living art.

First and foremost. Lead with mood over kitsch. I’m a huge fan of incorporating seasonal touches into my existing home decor. I aim to create a cohesive look between my interior and the seasonal accents. Aim to create mood and atmosphere and use strategic styling to set the stage. Here are my go to tips.

1. Cheesecloth over white webs. An elevated way to bring spooky texture. Drape over books, shelves and existing decor to create a haunted feel.

2. Black accents in webs and lace. Drape over tables, lamps, art and mirrors.

3. Candles. Layer in battery operated or real for added drama and ambiance.

4. Incorporate seasonal floral like branches, or bare stems in vases and garland layered over mirrors. Think dried hydrangeas, deep cimicifuga and oak leaves.

5. Fill bowls with natural toned moss, twigs and skulls for a spooky earthy feel.

6. Use butterfly decals for a romantic gothic touch. Create flutter scene on walls by art, mirrors or in nooks and corners.

7. Woven or ceramic Skull heads are classier than plastic.

8. Crows are fun to perch on the top edges of art and layer in vignettes.

9. Moody tapestry pillows in deeper tones like deep blues or mossy greens add in fall colors and foliage.

10. Use real vintage pieces like bowls, ornate candle holders, silver, and glass for authenticity and a layered romantic look. Avoid plastic and fake items.
